The best-known representatives of the rich natural treasure of Slovenia are the Proteus anguinus or "human fish" - the largest known inhabitant of the Karst caves - and the Lipizzaner, a native breed of horse; the stud farm in Lipica - over 400 years old - is home to around 200, while there are only 2,500 in the world.
